I have not been well since about last Thursday night. Overnight my tonsils swelled up, and by 11am on Friday, as my voice faded, my colleagues were telling me to go home (we’ll gloss over that I stubbornly stayed, albeit quietly, until my normal departures time). Well by Saturday it was developing along and by Sunday I knew I was down with one of my standard winter chest infections, with a side order of tonsillitis/voice loss/oh, and cold. I have asthma, it sucks, and I catch everything going *sigh*. I’d hoped I’d have got a lot more done this week – I’m not sure how much was because of the ick, and how much was just vast underestimation on my part on how much I wanted to get done right enough o.O So anyway, that’s my excuse for this week, ‘k?
Oh, and before you get caught up in the excitement(?!) of this week’s progress, come back tomorrow when I’ll be announcing a couple of big upcoming projects. Here’s a hint, if you’ve always wanted to paper piece, but been too afraid to try, this might be your thing…
Finishes This Week:
My February block for Piece Bee With You. Lynne wanted aquatic creatures, so of course I had to choose the octopus…
I’ll also share a finish from last week that I didn’t have a photo of before. Dad managed to be in the same place at the same time as mum and the skirt (no mean feat, can I tell you) and got this for me:
I also got my last 3 blocks done for the Japanese x and + swap, which I need to post out to Sarah ASAP:
In Progress:
The infamous rainbow windmill! I now have it pieced, made up to 20″ square, and fusible fleece applied to the back of it, I just have to decide how to quilt it. I’ve had loads of suggestions, and I got a hera marker a few weeks ago, so I’m going to have a play and see where it goes:
I got block 9 of the SHQ QAL done:
And I got all my cutting done for my Stained QAL/granny’s birthday quilt:
No Progress:
I’m kind of frustrated as Royal Mail is currently foiling my FTLOS making, as it’s holding some of my fabric hostage – grrr!
The bag I started 3 weeks ago, although I will hopefully get to that in the next few days…
To Be Worked On This Week:
The bag I started 3 weeks ago
My FTLOS items (hopefully!)
The big project reveal for tomorrow
Weigh In Progress:
Weight loss goal: 26 lbs / 11.8 kg
Stage: 4 weeks complete
Week’s loss: 1 lbs (0.45 kg)
Total loss: 14 lbs (6.4 kg)
Distance to goal: 12 lbs / 5.4 kg
Exercise done: Running up and down the escalators at the station x 1
Walking up and down the 120 stairs at work x 3 round trips, plus a couple of little jaunts between the 3 floors we work on
Walk to/from work: x2 @ 3 miles (4.8 km) total and @ 1 hr total
Lunchtime walks x 1 @ 45 mins solid walking, plus 1 shorter time
Total time exercising: about 1 hr 45 mins walking
Given that I’ve been ill for most of the week, and therefore unable to exercise, I wasn’t expecting anything, but hey, I’ll take a pound! Hopefully by the weekend I’ll be feeling up to having a go at the Wii Fit…

Love your windmill and the octupus is brilliant. Well done on all that exercise and 1lb off when you have been feeling so bad. Can recommend Zumba on the Wii, it is addictive! Hope you are feeling better soon.
Hi Katy
So sorry to hear you are suffering. It might be worth trying taking some Manuka honey. I too, have asthma and am prone to chest infections and can get into a cycle of one infection after another, but since I started taking a teaspoon at bedtime, my health seems to have improved greatly. I take the +15 Manuka, which is expensive, but preferable to repeated doses of antibiotics. I let the honey stay in my mouth for as long as possible. I can often feel a slight burning at the back of the throat (the amount of burning is usually an indicator of how sore my throat is)as the honey coats my throat. It doesn't taste very nice, but it really seems to work.
Hugs
Sue
Sorry you're still not feeling well. I've got asthma too and when I get sick it's much the same thing. I love seeing all of the things you've managed to get done, but what is really impressive is how much weight you've lost. Hope you're feeling better soon. Hugs
