Nothing like going down to the wire on a deadline, is there? ;o)

When Jennifer first announced her Modern Mini Challenge I had no idea what I was going to do, ideas flitted vaguely through my head and then danced right back out again.  And then Angela made an exquisite picture mini and an idea popped into my head and I had the perfect plan.  I did a couple of sketches, I firmed it up in my mind, and then I went to shop my stash for supplies and… nada.  I just didn’t have the fabric to render my idea in stitches, and I had no access to walk around one of those wonderfully large quilt shops our US cousins are blessed with to try and find supplies.

After a couple of rather dejected days, I then realised I had something I needed to make that would be perfect…

Can you guess what i forget to do? ;o)

I had fun with this – I dug out some of my Half Moon Modern and paper pieced the letters, then I created the iron in layers with bondaweb and free motion scribbly appliqued it in place, along with the holes on the sole plate.  I quilted in dense lines below the iron, leaving the letters just echo quilted, and for the top part I echo quilted the letters, then quilted in iron steam with both white and variegated grey thread.  I even had fun with the binding, with small strips of Remix from Ann Kelle.  The finished product is 18″x21″ and now has a place on the door next to the iron!

Here’s a few close ups:

I don’t think I have a hope of winning, just check out the other awesome entries, but I did have fun!
