As I was making my mini for the blog hop on Wednesday, I realised I was using only solids, which, other than for the For The Love Of Solids swap earlier in the year, I’ve never really done before. I actually collected a good array of solids last summer from an etsy shop that was closing down, as well as having collected some more along the way for other projects.
I don’t know what it is that means I don’t reach for them more, maybe too much choice? Maybe not enough co-ordinating selections? I’m not sure, but I know I really need to get some orange in there. And more of a range of blues, and maybe purples. I don’t know though, what do you think? What are your go to solid colours (feel free to tell me about the neutrals too, but I’d really love to know more colours!) Now I have a Kona colour card I can actually check what I have (although the original set I bought all had labels on them, there have been ones since that I have no clue about) and I can actually see what you’re talking about too :oD
Have very few solids in my stash, and the ones I have are all variations of purple, bought for a specific project. Obviously need to indulge in some more retail therapy 🙂
I also have very few solids in my stash (medium grey, dusty blue, white and black…all bought for specific projects and there's not much left!). I've also just invested in a Kona colour card because I was sick of asking online shops if a print was 'Boro red' (they had no idea what I was talking about, even when I tried bigger clubs!) or 'Tony the tiger orange'. I thought it would be easier to say 'How close is it to school bus?'!! Since getting the card yesterday I've been playing the 'which is my favourite colour' game – I still haven't decided!!
I think the reason I treat solids as second best is because patterned fabric is more tempting. So solids are like thread – bought as an essential rather than a pleasure. My go to Kona is Medium Grey. I get peed off that more shops stocking Kona don't stock that as a matter of course. Too tight to buy a kona colour card and always *mean* to label the scraps of other Kona's I buy that don't come labelled but never do lol
I never buy solids because the patterns are more exciting to look at, but I keep thinking my quilts might look more sophisticated if I did!

droooooooooool!
I love solids, especially greys. I'm a sucker for a good grey
Don't have heaps of solids either but just got the Sunrise bundle this morning from Cindy – thought I might start my own wee stingy colour card and paste a small square onto card – was needing purple recently and impossible to tell from the names which one I needed….maybe a shade card would be good but I am not a Stingy Mama for nothing.
That is one impressive stack of solids! The only solids that I have any amount of are grey, and orange, bought for specific reasons.. Oh, and recently I bought a nice minty retro green to be background for a scrappy project.. I drool over the color cards, but have never sprung for one.
What a beautiful bundle – I am in awe.
I have old ones, and I have new ones, but I never turn to them either except to add a little to the patterned ones! Perhaps I should get them all together and see what there really is!
I like seeing what other people make with solids and I like looking at all the colours but I tend to use patterned fabric in my projects.
When I first started, I joined the Pink Chalk Fabric Monthly solids club. It got me well and truly hooked! Can never have enough…. My go to's are always greys tho! Or blues & purples… Love solids…
i have been stashing solids lately. and i don't know what is wrong with my reader but your blog disappeared from my reader again and then reappeared today! i hope i fixed it this time!
Sometimes working in just solids puts a whole new spin on the quilt.
I had no solids until today, when I ordered 10 different Konas for Charlotte's quiltalong of her Fracture quilt. I don't know why I have ignored solids all this time! So many times I have bought a lovely print but then been restricted by how I can use it because it looks different when it's chopped up.
I just love that stack of fabric!!!
I'm afraid I love all the colours and keep working to own them all. One day.
