Last Wednesday I mentioned that I’d ordered some Oakshott int he sale to be the background/backing for my NYB cushion. It arrived on Saturday, and my heart sank. I had thought it was a much darker, greyer from the photo on the site, but I really struggled to work out whether it would co-ordinate with the sunrise pack that I’d made the NYB from in the first place but looking at photos online, and the pack didn’t mention what colours it contained to try and work things out that way. So here’s what it looks like:
I think it looks too turquoisey (I’d been hoping for something more along the lines of navy), but what do you think? Am I to focussed on what it isn’t, and missing something, or should I keep on hunting? Answers on a postcard…
I think it's fine. I'd really like a border of the purple you use in the points of the bottom half. Does that work at all?
I think it looks good too, but, of course, it may look different in natural light.
I think it looks fine, but then I like to deliberately not match my backings (take THAT "rules"!) so I'm probably not a good person to comment.
It looks great in the picture – but gain, it may look to us as it did to you on the Oakshott site! x
If your photo is true to colour I'd say it's perfect…but then what do I know?
So very hard to get true colour photos of oakshott. I do love what I'm seeing there tho… whether that's what *you're* seeing I dont know!!! x (sarah at mums)
I think it looks great but then you're the one who has to be happy with it,
I think if you're here asking us then you arent 100% happy and you're having doubts. It's showing definite turquoise here and looks good but if you think it needs a navy base then go for round 2 .
I like it and think it'll work, just fine.
What I see looks spot on…
It looks lovely with your NYB block but the colour may look different IRL.
It's difficult to be subjective when you have the colour you wanted already planted in your brain! I think it looks really good the way it is!
I like it behind the yellow, but not the grey! How about doing a split background to mirror the split NYB? Jxo
It looks lovely!
I think once done, you won't see the back as the front is star of the show :). I like the colors from what I can tell too!
What colour are you going for? From the picture it looks good to me. If you order more, consider the liparis as they are shot with one thread black, one another colour so the dark blue one might be just what you were seeking.
I really like it – but maybe it's reading differently on camera? I know I found oakshotts very difficult to photograph accurately.
I like it.
I had a quick sharp intake of breath at first glance, so I'm fairly certain it's gorgeous. But I know how tricky it is when something doesn't match the vision you had in your head….
This is stunning, and from what I can see from my computer monitor, the colors work. But, if you think something is off, it might be in person. Sometimes when I'm unsure of a color or print, I'll set it aside for a day or two (completely out of sight) and return to it with fresh eyes.
Looks good on my screen, but my screen is known for being very wrong on the colours.
If you're not happy with it, try for sonething else as it'll nag at you everytime you see it, regardless of what we think
Reading people's comments, they seem generally a bit muted because I love it!! I often am in the minority and as Helen said, what do I know…but I really like what I see and think you are focusing on what it isn't so embrace what it is!!
I think the colours are fabulous…what a cheerful, lovely block! It cheers me up just to look at it.
I absolutly love it. It looks like the sun is dipping into the sea, at sunset time.
Beautiful.
Ditto what Kays Kids said! that's exactly what I was going to say. it's a yin yang effect. 🙂
I can only follow suit and say it looks good to me. I know how it is when you have a picture in your mind and the real thing doesn't match up.
i think i would go with the purple border like Cindy said !!
