You may recall that I have declared this long weekend ‘bag weekend’, I have many plans (probably half of which won’t come to fruition, but one has to have a dream, right?!), but I thought that it would be good to enable a bunch of you to become prospective bag ladies too, because misery great pleasure loves company…
You all know my great friend Sara, right?
Sara is the queen of bag making patterns, and since she got some super fancy pattern software thanks to a kickstarter campaign, she has been a pattern making fiend, coming out with 9 patterns this year alone in her own pattern shop. Previously she’s been in several magazines, she’s a Pellon Project Artist, and, biggest news of all, she’s about to bring out a book this year!

Convertible Clutch I tested, featured in Sew News magazine last year |
I’ve enjoyed pattern testing for Sara in the past, so I know that you will love her patterns, and she’s going to give 3 of you the chance to win 3 patterns of your choice from her shop:
So what do you need to do to attempt to win these goodies? Well Sara hasn’t given any restrictions, but although I’m not a fan of hoops for giving away my own crap goodies, I think you need to put in a bit of effort here, and I’m going to be super mean about sticking to the rules too, so no ‘pick me’, that will get you nowhere ;o)
1. Tell me what 3 patterns you would choose, and what fabrics you’d use (1 entry)
2. For an extra entry, go and follow Sara here and let me know how you’re following (1 entry)
3. Tell me what bag making technique you’d love to learn about (1 entry)
If you are a No Reply Blogger PLEASE leave an email address in your comment in the format: name (at) provider (dot) com so that I can contact you. I get quite a few no-reply comments each week, so if you’ve commented here before and got no reply, that’s why (I reply to everyone, I love to talk!). If I draw your name and find I have no way to contact you, I will draw again straight away – you have been warned!
Entries will close at midnight GMT on Sunday night. Mr Random Number Generator will do the honours of selecting the winners, which I will announce on Monday. Good luck!
Definitely the Paparazzi bag, the dot dot dash, and soda pop. I'm not sure which fabric–I have a collection of Essex and maybe some Ruby Star. Ooh, I hope being so indecisive about the fabric doesn't eliminate my chances…
I'd choose the Aerpolane, the Accordion and Dot Dot Dash – but actually I like them all!
I follow Sara via GFC!
I'd like to improve my zip insertion technique – mine always look wobbly!
I would love an entry thanks – I am following Sara's blog via google friend connect.
I would like to try the following three patterns: Locked and Loaded, Paparazzi and Dot Dot Dash. I'd use a baby corduroy for the first two and some floral cotton by Amy Butler for third one.
Third entry – I'd like to learn how to sew leather bits for the handles with my sewing machine.
i'd choose soda pop, sunrise and locked and loaded, I'm tempted to try some tula pink fabric. I've just finished aeroplane bag and that was a fab pattern
I follow sara
I'd love to learn how to put my zips in better and improve my topstitching
Oooh Airplane in Field Study,Paparrazi in Comma and Soda Pop in Chicopee!
Following 🙂
Well as I'm useless at inserting zippers, how about learning how to insert an interior pocket with a zip.
Aeroplane, Velocity Girl and Locked and Loaded!
I follow Sarah via BlogLovin and Google Reader!
I still need to learn zippers! 🙁
I would pick Accordian, Paparazzi, And Soda Pop.
I have never made an adjustable strap, I would like to learn that.
Aeroplane, paparazzi and soda pop, and for fabrics texty low volume with a dash of accent colour, ish, maybe!
I have already subscribed to the newsletter, because i'm good like that!
I can't think of a technique, but as I am technically homeless I am already a "bag lady" so I must win, right??!!
Sunrise Clutch, Papparazi, Aeroplane Bags
I want to learn to sew wooden handles into a purse or bag. I have handles but have been too chicken to try and make them work :S
I'd love to make the "locked and loaded", "aeroplane" and the "paparazzi" bags. I think they call for using some lovely batik fabrics.
I follow Sara on bloglovin
And I like to learn about closures (my zip-skills are not great) and how to put in internal pockets or dividers…
Aeroplane, Velocity and Soda Pop – I picture Aeroplane with some gray linen on the bottom and something bright on top. Scrap patchwork for Soda Pop. No clear vision yet for Velocity.
I follow Sara through Google Reader.
I've never successfully completed a bag so I need to learn them all! Putting in a zipper or an inside pocket would probably be at the top of the list.
That's a good question — I was thinking of some fabrics in the back of my mind while I was looking at the picture of all the patterns. I think I would choose Aeroplane Bags and do it in a cherries print with black gingham for the base … Accordian Bag with denim for the body, different shades of pink for the flap, and my pink stars fabric for the lining (black and white prints + black/white gingham would be great too) … and Locked and Loaded would be magnificent in Echino prints 🙂
I finally got some Soft and Stable to make the Dot Dot Dash bag – it has a different feel than any other interfacing/stabilizer I've ever used. I wouldn't mind some tips on how to use it – I'm really hoping it's not too thick to go through my sewing machine!
Velocity, Paparazzi and Aeroplane bags are my favorites. Sara is so super talented!
I follow Sara on FB
I would like to learn how to make my handles look more professional.
OK yes please, I'd make the aeroplane bag from my stash of Architexture if I'm feeling really brave. The Dot Dot Dash bag from stash stuff and do a quilt as you go if that would work. And I think the Petrillo bag from my Quilt Blocks stash – thanks so much for the chance…
I follow Sara via GFC and she pops up in my feedly somehow!
I'd like to learn how to make sure my sliders fit properly!
Cool! I'd make dot dot dash from some of my AMH stash, the sunrise clutch from some oakshotts and the velocity girl bag from stash (maybe simply colour?)
I follow Sara via GFC
I've only made really simple bags so far, so pretty much any technique I'd be interested to learn :o)
I follow her already 🙂
I want the Aeroplane bag so bad 🙂 I have this "sexy valentines men" fabric that would be fun to use 🙂
i'd choose locked and loaded, accordion, and petrillo!
and i follow her already 😀
I love Sara's patterns. I would love Velocity Girl, Aeroplane Bags and Locked and Loaded. What fabric? OOh, I think it is time for some new fabric for me. Maybe something in Architextures.
I am already following Sara!
Velocity, soda pop and dot dot dash…fabrics would be some rockin romance by Pat Bravo…voile and perhaps some olga solids 🙂
For bag making technique- for sure the best type of pellon for each/any bag. Oh, and 'olga' above is supposed to be kona…don't know how that changed to olga! 🙂
New follower here…I have a lot of catch-up reading to do! Love all the bags, but I think I'd pick the Sunrise Clutch in emerald and navy solids, Locked and Loaded in Paris Flea Market by 3 Sisters, and Soda Pop in Comma, by Zen Chick.
I follow Sew Sweetness on Facebook 🙂
I've never made a paper pieced bag, it looks like something fun to learn, and with pretty results, too!
I'd try the aeroplane bag; the accordion bag and the dot dot dash bag. I think I'd make at least one of these using a combination of fabrics from Type by Julia Rothman
I follow Sew Sweetness
I'd love to try adding an adjustable strap to my bags.
I would like to have a go at the Petrillo, Dot Dot Dash and Aeroplane bags. They would be the perfect excuse to buy some of Rashida Coleman-Hale's new fabric line!
I follow Sara on Bloglovin
I'd like to learn how to resize purse patterns to suit different types of frames.
1. The Aeroplane bag in a lovely amy butler lotus print
2. The Dot Dash bag using a Marmalade charm pack
3. The Locked and Loaded bag – not sure about the fabric for this one, I'd probably have to go shopping!
I follow Sew Sweetness
I'd like to learn how to put in a gusseted top zipper
so long as i got the aeroplane bag any of the rest !!
i follow sew sweetness on bloglovin
i want to do frame purses !!
Hi there
Thanks for the chance to win. I would choose paparazzi, soda pop and aeroplane and I would use Charcoal Sketch and Aubergine Bloom for handles on all three!
Hi there again. I would like to learn adjustable straps with D rings. Which way do the straps go through the rings??
Thanks
I like the Locked and Loaded, Petrillo and Aeroplane patterns the best. I really love the straps on the Petrillo. I'm not sure what fabrics I would use though. I have some Filigree Flutter that would look great as the Locked and Loaded bag, but I think I would have to go fabric shopping for the others, I don't tend to buy large cuts unless I am getting them for something specific!
I already follow Sara's blog
The technique I would like to learn is (I think this is the name) a recessed zip. I know how to do a regular one at the top of a bag, but I'd like to learn how to do one of this type as I think it looks really good.
I like these bags the best: Aeroplane, Paparazzi, and Soda Pop bags. The one that most intrigues me is the Aeroplane bag.
I've been a follower of Sara's for a while through Google Reader.
Piping would be a good technique to learn. I think it adds such a nice finish to a bag.
I'd like Soda Pop, Aeroplane bag( which is my favourite) and velocity city. As to fabric-well I'd do soda pop in AMH from stash, aeroplane with some essex linen on the bottom and QAYG using scraps for the top, and velocity city from some cotton/linen DS leaves I have in stash.
I'd also like to learn piping to give that professional finish.
I would make the locked and loaded as a regular summer purse, the paparazzi bag to use instead of the ugly black one my hubbie set for me to use, and the petrillo one for travel. I kind of have been stockpiling some echino that would be great, but also have some heavier cotton from Ikea that would also work.
Have been following Sara for a while now and have been watching as the incredible number of bags started showing up this year.
I have made lots of pouches and several larger handbags and totes, and have done zippers, but not a zip that was inset into a pocket, so I guess that should be my next thing to learn. I don't think that I am a no-reply blogger…but you know who I am 🙂
Petrillo, camera bag, and the locked and loaded, but it was tough choosing!! I have some Echino I'd like to use. I already bough the Aeroplane pattern, but haven't made it yet-it's at the top of the list!! Thanks so much-
soda pop, AEROPLANE, and paparazzi. I have some turtle fabric and some mushroom fabric I am dying to make a bag with. my husband and I both want an aeroplane bag! BUT my husband also wants one for traveling so I am going to have to hit up my stash to look for some manly stuff…. maybe some solids for his. I love her bags… they just seem so practical.
I would love to learn more about interfacing and good substitutions… like using what you have instead of what the pattern calls for. I always get so confused with all of that.
I am subscribing to your blog and sew sweetness. 🙂
