Okay, you know you’re in trouble when you find yourself sewing to ‘Booze Patrol Australia’, ‘Lifeguard’ and ‘Bondi Rescue’. Seriously. There may have been a dalliance into a 90’s teen drama too *ahem*.
I have Sky:
God forbid I should be bored ;o)
So I need your advice, what do I *need* to watch? I’m not a Sci Fi/Fantasy fan. I’m kind of iffy on period dramas. I like crime dramas, but I like ones with a bit of humour in them. So hit me with your best suggestions…
The uk show sherlock is excellent it's on netflix in the US, so I assume it should be on the UK version. I sew to old movies and TV shows, Emma Peel era Avengers, the Thin Man series. James Bond makes an excellent background accompaniment to my sewing machine. Oh, I've recently been watching a comedic mystery series, Psych. It's on US netflix, no idea about the UK version.
Have been enjoying The Americans recently, that is worth a look if you can find it.
I live in the Czech Republic – what do I know. A 5th repeat of csi New York is the highlight of my week!
Dexter!!!!!!! I'm on ep 4 on Netflix – crime with humour. Black humour!
P.S. were you watching Dawson's Creek?!
Orange is the new black on Netflix. I also thoroughly enjoyed the entire gossip girl back catalogue ……
Pretty little liars!! I've just started watching it, it's good!!
Elementary, Ray Donovan, The Mob Doctor – just started so I'm only 1 episode in bit very good so far and Blue Bloods is rerunning from season 1 on sky atlantic and has Tom Selleck staring (Gotta love that 'tash!) I have sky+ and no social life 😀 need any more recommendations just let me know lol
Ok, so I know this isn't strictly entertainment, but when I'm sewing I like to listen to/watch the TED talks series. I also really like Burn Notice (so funny!), Alias, Scrubs (another really funny show), and The West Wing. I don't know if you'll get all of those on UK Netflix, but I wonder if you might like one or two of those series. 🙂
I have similar tastes but all the good stuff has finished for now. Have you tried New Girl? Do you get old episodes of Revenge on Netflix?
I can't help myself I love Bones and Elementary 🙂
We enjoyed the Returned (weird French thriller series) so if that comes back on try to catch it. Also The Dictator (Sacha Baron Cohen film) has been on a few times recently and makes me laugh every single time. So funny!
I don't tend to watch thriller series but my other half has been glued to both Homeland and the Wire. I have been watching some back episodes of Sherlock recently – missed the entire series first time around. Not sure whether I'm watching it for the thriller element or just to watch Mr Cumberbatch slink around for an hour and a half 🙂
I'm terrible at watching tv and sewing because I get so distracted. I like to listen to podcasts – Pat Sloan interviews, What you didn't Learn In History pod casts, old Alex Anderson podcasts, there's heaps of quilting podcasts I haven't ventured to listen to yet..
Are you serious. If you're watching that crap I think you may need to emigrate. You must really love Australia if you can put up with watching that.
Yep- those crap Aussie shows are considered filler here – nobody really watches them.
Castle is a good US crime show with humour. Try that if you can get it.
Uh, crime dramas? I'm with the other people on Bones and Castle, but those are really based on residual Whedonshow-love. hah! Sometimes I watch Body of Proof if I'm really desperate, but it's kind of bad. 😀
Why don't you watch some fun Korean dramas while you sew! I bet you can sew and read subtitles at the same time, you multi-tasker, you.
Covert affairs is great and I also love Justified because it is a crime show with a shoot em up/cowboy theme. Scifi sortof but fun is Grimm…after the grimm fairy tales…silly and funny. There is so much out there really!
I just started watching Broadchurch. I also love Rizzoli and Isles and Major Crimes for summer shows. Winter shows – NCIS. So apparently I like crime shows!
Castle. Give Grimm a try – yes, it strays into fantasy but its a cop show essentially and is good fun. Sherlock. Blue Bloods. And oldies, but classics, The West Wing and The Sopranos. Oh – and Modern Family.
Well, I don't know your choices but I know you can do better. I need to start watching stuff while I sew, I think I am partly over my need for silence phase.
Definitely The Americans, Blue Bloods,( a bit formulaic but ok to sew to), and then The Following.
I really like covert affairs. Its about a girl/woman who's new to the CIA and her adventures. Its serious but has lots of humour too. You could also try Parks & Recreation. The first serious is pretty naff but thankfully short although it really comes into its own in S2. S3 is being shown on bbc4 probably next year now as they did S1 & 2 this year. The Good Wife is really great too!
best tv series ever was Big Love, you can't beat a show about a mormon polygamist family! I'm actually serious..
Also, Dexter, Burn Notice, Grimm, Sherlock, Elementary, Perception, Numbers, the Americans, … no idea if you can get them on Netflix as I'm not really sure what Netflix is, but people above seem to think so!
I agree The Americans, Castle (love it) and all the Masterpiece Theatre Mystery series are great.
we've really enjoyed Arrested Development from netflicks, but while sewing i have audio books, and im currently listening to Stephen Kings gunslinger series: I've read them several times (and love them) so don't mind too much if i miss a bit if the machines too loud
Bones, Criminal Minds (but it's very dark), NCIS, they are the crime ones I love. For humour Modern Family, Scrubs, the TopGear specials. I bet you meant either Home and Away or Neighbours for your teen drama?
If you can suspend your disbelief, Republic of Doyle is pretty fun and a little hokey. It's a little like Magnum, P. I., but set in Newfoundland. Fun accents, wonderfully (painfully) Canadian, and stars a cutie who seems to be missing his shirt at least once a season. 🙂 It's my favourite Canadian show of all time.
