You may have noticed this little pile in my FAL list for this quarter:
Well I about 2 months after I finished the 4 Liberty panels, I finally united them with the Essex Linen in Natural in the way I had planned:

Please excuse the dodgy lighting |
It’s not very big, only 26 1/2″ x 32 1/2″, but that’s okay, it’s only meant to be a wall hanging :o)
Anywho, my next task is to quilt it, so the question it, what would you do?
I’m thinking straight lines randomly criss-crossing, but I’m open for other suggestions. I do think that FMQ is not the way to go though, as I don’t want to detract from the kind of ‘cleanness’ that there is in it.
Answers on a postcard in the comments box please!
Because I don't know a darn thing about quilting I have no suggestions but I love the materials. Beautiful colors!
Love this! How about echoing around the Liberty shapes until they meet, or crossover slightly so you don't quilt the Liberty!
I love straight line quilting of any kind. You could maybe echo the shapes of the blocks as this isn't a huge piece and wouldn't be too unwieldy……?
I like Lucy's idea…
How neat that you're making decorations for your walls! I think random criss-crossing sounds great. 🙂
Matchstick quilting? I like how an all-over design pulls everything together. Maybe a variegated thread?
Sorry but I agree with lynz…matchstick quilting would look great on this! (But maybe not over the liberty)
I'm going to agree with Lynz too, just wish I could see your face at the same time…. lol
I love Lucy's idea too!!
I would be quilting straight parallel lines, close together, but only in the white areas… I suppose that would be matchstick quilting, yes. I just did a good bit of it myself and really love the effect!
I am very happy to see so many folks suggest matchstick quilting, clearly I have had some influence here.. You surely know what I would do, matchstick quilting with slight wobbles. If you have some different threads, randomly change them out. I think this is beautiful, it is simple and modern with very lovely old fashioned looking liberty fabrics, which makes it even more wonderful.
My first thought was exactly the same as Lucy;s. Echo quilting would look lovely!
I like the straight lines idea, not sure about the random criss-cross; I also like the echo idea. But the quilting part of a quilt is always the hardest for me to decide on so…? Either way, clean lines is where it's at.
I would echo quilt, too. Either pick one and radiate out over the rest, OR do x-number of rounds around each until they start to touch and echo around those. Maybe stitch in the ditch for the actual colour blocks?
It's going to be ridiculously pretty when it's finished, regardless.
You have already had great suggestions for your quilting so I will just echo the others in going for matchstick quilting!
Yes I would ditch stich the pattern and echo the pattern around it until you meet the next one.
Hi Katy
I think this would be great using one Spiral Illusion pattern by Leah Dayover the whole quilt.

I second Bethany–echo straight lines around each. I would put them 1-2 cm apart.
I'm with the echo quilters. Boy that's going to be pretty!
