I need to come up with a better name for this, but I made this bag for an upcoming trip, where the airline gives you a ‘Personal Bag’ along with your carry on bag.  The dimensions were generous, as was the weight limit, and, anticipating the need for as much space as possible, I thought I’d make myself a bag to fit.

Measuring 18″ x 14″ x 8″, I wanted something that was relatively easy to assemble, and preserved the largest amount of volume possible.  Using Koi canvas as my outer fabric, and a plain cream Klona cotton for the lining, it has the following features:

  1. Wrapped handles
  2. Detachable shoulder strap
  3. Zipped outer pocket
  4. Outer patch pockets
  5. Reinforced bottom, with feet
  6. Lining slip pockets

Outer zipped pocket:

1 outer patch pocket

Hanging from the shoulder strap:

End patch pockets (the same at either end)

Reinforced base with feet:

Wrapped handles:

It was the first time I’d tried the wrapped handles, and I’m rather pleased with how they turned out, even if I did have a couple of head scratching moments!
