So my friend Kerry Foster recently wrote a booklet showing off her fabulous ‘paint by numbers’ style animal quilts.
Published by Stash Books, it takes you through Kerry’s excellent technique to create machine sewn turned edge applique – all you need is scissors, freezer paper, a glue stick and your sewing machine! As it takes you through the method for creating the pattern and preparing all the pieces, you could easily take the techniques to use on your own patterns as well.
Needless to say, someone in the house (*ahem* Jack) has been eyeing up the big guy for me to tackle:
However, I think that this wee guy, who’s a stand alone mini quilt, is possibly more in my available timeframe (sorry Jack):
Which is not at all to run down the other two, just that the ones above were our favourites :o)
So would you like the chance to get a digital copy of your own? If so, leave me a comment below telling me either what your favourite pattern from the book is OR what picture you would try to recreate using this technique.
Entries close at midnight BST on Sunday 30th September.
I love the bear but Kerry did an amazing quilt of her dog Hank and we have a recently added to the family 11 year old Basset Hound called Hank that would look fantastic with this technique!
This looks very interesting. Jock, Zeke and Emmett are voting with Jack. We love the big bear ? ???
Awesome technique – I have a couple dogs that I would love to do!!
I really want to try the Fox but would probably start with the raccoon mug rug also.
Since I have deer in my backyard, I’d start with that motif.
I live in British Columbia, bears are all around us. I recall a family camping trip as a child and my dad told my mom to get us all in the car. We all got in along with dad and a bear ran across the corner of our tent that dad was laying out on the ground. We also have the Spirit bears in a protected park. Thanks for a chance to win a copy.
HI Katy, hard to choose but I think the deer’s eyes have it for me. Lesley
I would love to try and create my kitties in fabric
I think the fox.
I like the raccoon mug rug. I would like to get my feet wet before trying a larger one. By feet I mean quilting feet.
I like the deer!
That bear looks like he’s going to come right through the door to greet you. These are awesome
Love them all!! I want to try this technique. Favorite is fox and raccoon
