Quilt Now Issue 37

Quilt Now Issue 37

by Katy Cameron | 19.06.2017 | Bag Makes, My Makes, Publications, Quilt Now Magazine

Sorry this one is so late, my copy of the magazine went on a little adventure!  Anyway, in this issue I came up with a handy summer staple, a swimming bag, made with laminated fabric.  This one has a handy zipped inner pocket for your locker money too. Other...

Quilt Now Issue 35

by Katy Cameron | 21.04.2017 | Bag Makes, My Makes, Publications, Quilt Now Magazine

The inspiration for this month’s Quilt Now creation came from the lovely Helen, who sent me the idea rather a long time ago and probably thought I’d forgotten all about it!  I was waiting for the perfect fabric combo and zips to fall into my line of...

Quilt Now Issue 34

by Katy Cameron | 24.03.2017 | Bag Makes, My Makes, Publications, Quilt Now Magazine

This month it was all about the bright colours in Quilt Now Issue 34, and I’m glad I was able to contribute a lovely bright pattern using BariJ canvas from her Mille Fleurs line, along with the new faux leather strapping and some hardware from U-Handbag: I might...

Quilt Now Issue 33

by Katy Cameron | 06.03.2017 | Bag Makes, My Makes, Publications, Quilt Now Magazine

Sorry this is a little late, but a big thank you to the ladies at Sew Simple at Lady Heyes Craft Centre in Frodsham, Cheshire for having a copy of Quilt Now 33 in stock when I couldn’t find it elsewhere!  Of course I picked up some fabric while I was there...

Quilt Now Issue 32

by Katy Cameron | 27.01.2017 | Bag Makes, My Makes, Other Makes, Publications, Quilt Now Magazine

Ah, it’s the issue before Valentine’s Day, so what was a girl to do but design a Valentine’s themed project (don’t worry, the rest of the issue is not filled with mushy stuff!)  Still, this was a fun idea I’d been batting around for...

Quilt Now Issue 31

by Katy Cameron | 06.01.2017 | My Makes, Other Makes, Publications, Quilt Now Magazine

QN Issue 31 was a wee bit slow getting north of the border, but I finally grabbed a copy just before Christmas.  I love the colourful quilts on the colour, especially Susan’s plus quilt.  Maybe I need to sneak down and acquire it #Iknowwhereshelives...

I adore puffins, inquisitive little guys with such I adore puffins, inquisitive little guys with such fun, colourful beaks. These ones were hanging around on the Isle of Staffa a few years ago. It's a popular nesting spot for them, and there are several options for boat trips out to the island. I went with a long lens so as not to stress them out.

Well done to everyone who guessed the lighthouse y Well done to everyone who guessed the lighthouse yesterday!

There's a bit of a story behind this one. 2 weeks ago I had my last day at my old job after 10 1/2 years. Near the end of my first year in the job, after a very stressful couple of months with a demanding client where I was working practically around the clock, I finished that phase of the project and went online to find a last minute holiday to recover. I ended up spending a week in November in the old keeper's cottage in the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan, the most westerly point on the British mainland.

Sadly, you can no longer stay there, but in honour of that week away and my first great escape, I used the voucher from my 10 year long service award and some money my colleagues gave me when I left to purchase this set. This weekend, just before I start my new job, seemed the best time to build it.

At the moment, I'm leaning towards some matchstick lines in different directions in different sections, but that thought is still percolating.

In the meantime, I'm wrestling my puff quilt through the machine, which is quite hard going
