Camera Challenge 4 Review – Triangle Of Light – Understanding ISO

by Katy Cameron | 11.05.2015 | Camera Challenge Reviews, Camera Challenges 2015, Photography, Tutorials

This month we finally reached the third side of the Triangle Of Light, ISO.  Although not as exciting as the other two sides, as far as effects go, it’s very useful in allowing you to be able to capture images in lower light situations while still getting the aperture...

by Katy Cameron | 24.04.2015 | Camera Challenge Reviews, Camera Challenges 2015, Photography, Tutorials

Over the past decade digital cameras have come a long way in the quality arena.  These days even your phone camera will boast more megapixels than the original digital cameras, but for all the millions of megapixels that the manufacturers can cram into the sensor now,...

Camera Challenge 3 Review Triangle of Light – Understanding Shutter Speed

by Katy Cameron | 06.04.2015 | Camera Challenge Reviews, Camera Challenges 2015, Photography, Tutorials

This month we’ve continued to explore the Triangle Of Light by looking at the effect of shutter speed either in freezing motion or blurring either the background or the subject. For the first two parts of the challenge, I used a competition at our local velodrome –...

Camera Challenge 2 Review Triangle of Light – Understanding Aperture

by Katy Cameron | 09.03.2015 | Camera Challenge Reviews, Camera Challenges 2015, Photography, Tutorials

This month’s challenge was to start understanding the ‘Triangle Of Light’, beginning with aperture.  The main idea was to show what the effect is when your aperture is increased or decreased, particularly when close to the subject of the photo. This is the setup I...

White Balancing Your 50 Shades Of Grey – Camera Challenge Bonus Post

by Katy Cameron | 06.03.2015 | Camera Challenge Reviews, Camera Challenges 2015, Photography, Tutorials

Now that we have moved away from full auto mode and the presets in our camera challenges, there are a few things that we need to consider apart from the aperture and shutter speed in order to ensure a good photo. The first thing you need to consider is the metering...

After a day of chores and making a mahoosive batch After a day of chores and making a mahoosive batch of bolognese sauce, I'm going to be working on more of my puff quilt tonight as part of the #saturdaynightcraftalong with @charmaboutyou

I've got all the empty rows sewed together, so now I'm stuffing and joining them, starting from the bottom and working up.

15/20 rows for the puff quilt I've been working on 15/20 rows for the puff quilt I've been working on for the past 3 weeks. It will end at 20x20 puffs, so around 70" square, and I climbed up to my bale of bouncifil stuffing today to grab enough for the next stage in construction.

Checking in early for the #saturdaynightcraftalong with @charmaboutyou hope I can get all the rows sewn together tonight so I can start stuffing tomorrow...

The stragglers from a bus load of Asian tourists t The stragglers from a bus load of Asian tourists take photos in front of the 'traditional' buildings on the Römerberg in the middle of Frankfurt. I say 'traditional' because Frankfurt, once the largest medieval city in Germany, suffered from terrible carpet bombing in World War II, with the USAF and the RAF dropping just over 27,000 metric tons of explosive on the city between 1942 and 1945, pretty much destroying its original medieval architecture as well as killing around 5,500 people. Initially post war reconstruction went for modern architecture (and apparently a good deal of concrete), but by the 1970's the residents of Frankfurt were looking to get back some of what they'd lost. In fact these buildings here weren't constructed until the 1980s after a local vote on how to replace a concrete monstrosity. Across the square from this is the Römer, which has been in use as the city hall since the 15th century, and which was restored somewhat more lovingly post war.
